Day 6: Connect To Your Creativity

Here you can find everything for Day 6 in one place!

TRANSCRIPT

Hello lovely creative and welcome to day six of Light Up Your Creative Joy. I can't believe we only have one day left and then we're going to be doing the intention setting session.

So I hope you enjoyed yesterday's invitations to play and maybe they sparked some ideas for you about how you can incorporate more playful approaches into your creative practice or your life. But today we're going to be doing some kind of preparatory work for the intention setting session.

What I would like to invite you to do today is write a letter to your creativity. I know that can sound a little bit odd, because our creativity is a part of ourselves and it's a very abstract thing, but what writing a letter to your creativity does is create a space where you can not only define the kind of relationship you want with your creativity going forward but also a place where you can acknowledge some of the disconnects that might be occurring. So to write your letter you really don't need much other than a quiet 10 or 15 minutes, something to write on, it can be paper, you can write on your laptop, whatever feels good for you. You could also do it verbally if you prefer, so you could use an audio recorder or a voice recorder on your mobile phone.

If you're not really sure where you want to begin today, I've added some starting points in the resource. So the first could be simply to write Dear Creativity and then talk to it as though it is a good friend.

Maybe one you haven't seen that much lately, maybe one you'd like to see more.

You could also name your creativity. Choose a name that feels like it represents what creativity is to you. You could always draw what creativity looks like to you. If it was a, like a little creature or being inside you, what would it look like?

You could start with, I wanted to thank you for. And then you could list all the things that creativity has brought to your life. Or, if you don't feel that you've been giving your creativity enough time lately, you could start with, 'It's been too long. I'm sorry I haven't made space for you'. And then you could talk about why that is and how you'd like to change things.

You could write about what you're looking forward to. So, 'I'm so looking forward to'. Or you could write about the relationship that you and your creativity had in the past 'I remember when'. Maybe there are things that you're proud of. So you could say, 'Dear Creativity, I'm really proud that we have done such and such'.

Or you can just start free writing and see what happens. But we're going to use this tomorrow as part of our intention setting session.

But if anything comes up that acts as a signpost to where maybe there's a disconnect with your creativity or there are things happening in your life which are preventing you from connecting to your creativity in the way that you want to, then jot those down in the letter and tomorrow in the intention setting session we will be looking at some approaches you could use to help you move through that or to make steps forward into having the relationship with your creativity that you want to.

So I hope that that brings you some insight and I will see you tomorrow for our big session, our intention setting session, which is day seven, our last day of Light Up Your Creative Joy. See you there. Bye bye!
