Hello and welcome to Day 3 - Collecting Curiosity! Today we’ll gather together more objects or images that connect to your colour palette and the words you selected in Day 2 to make a creative moodboard.
So before we get started today let’s have a recap over what we’ll be doing for the last few days of the course:
Today we’ll be collecting together more objects or images that connect to your colour palette or the words you chose to make a really creative moodboard.
Day 4: Studying Shape - We’ll begin to look more closely at the objects you have selected, exploring different ways to represent their shape.
Day 5: Celebrate Your Journey - In our last lesson we will bring everything together to create a beautiful paper wreath that celebrates your own personal journey on this course, and that you can display for future inspiration!
Collecting Curiosity
Today is ‘Collecting Curiosity’ so we’re going to be going into magpie mode and gather together an assortment of things that inspire us.
You might have made a moodboard before - they are often something people have done in school art books or when they are planning how to redecorate their house. But I promise you, I do use them in my work and I really think they can be a lovely tool for exploring what you are interested in, and a nice reminder of where you’d like to go!
So how do you begin to put yours together? If you look back again at your colour palette and illuminated text from Days 1 and 2 these are a good place to start!
What colours, textures or shapes can you use?
Are there any words or quotes that relate to these?
Are there themes, topics or ideas that you want to develop in your moodboard?
Are there photographs, postcards or books around you that these remind you of?
Are there artworks by other artists that connect to what you are interested in? Perhaps you could spend some time on Pinterest or Google looking into this!
I’ve made a sheet below with suggestions which you can save or download, but of course you can do it however works best for you! Your moodboard can be a physical thing, like a piece of card or a pinboard, or I’ve created a tutorial below on making a digital one so you may want to think about this as you begin to collect your curiosity.
Assembling Your Moodboard
Now that we’ve gathered our inspiration let’s assemble our moodboard!
The old school way to do this is to get a pinboard or a piece of cardboard and put it all together. I recommend putting on some good music and nice lighting and making the whole thing into a little ceremony - celebrate your view of the world because there won’t be an identical one anywhere!
If you’d like to make it digitally, I’ve created a little tutorial below on using Canva, a free online service that already has some moodboard templates you can use.

However you choose to make your moodboard I really hope you enjoy the process and I can’t wait to get started bringing everything together to make our paper wreath in Days 4 and 5.
